Utility data is what powers the benchmarking process. Once it is added to the property record, Portfolio Manager can begin organizing the building’s energy use over time.
Depending on the building and reporting requirements, this may include:
electricity
natural gas
water
other energy sources, if applicable
The exact utility setup can vary by property, which is why this is often a step where clients benefit from guidance.
It helps to have the following available:
utility provider names
utility account numbers
recent utility bills or account records
a basic understanding of whether the building has one meter or multiple meters
any known tenant-paid utility arrangement, if applicable
You do not need everything perfectly organized before starting, but having the basics ready will make this step easier.
Log into your account and open the property you previously created.
Create the utility meters that apply to the building. In many cases, this includes electric and gas. Some buildings may also need water or other utility data entered depending on the property and reporting requirements.
Add the utility account information and begin entering usage data through the method that fits your building setup.
In some cases, data may be entered manually. In others, the process may involve utility records or a separate data connection process.
Make sure the property includes the utility types that apply to the building and that the information entered is reasonably complete and consistent.
Even small gaps or setup errors can create issues later in the reporting process.
Once the utility information is in place, the property is better prepared for benchmarking, review, and any next-step compliance support.
Some buildings have a straightforward utility structure. Others may involve:
multiple meters
tenant-paid accounts
shared utilities
partial records
different data access arrangements
If that applies to your building, it is usually best to keep moving forward with the basics and let Evergreen help review the setup before reporting begins.
After the property and utility data are set up, the next step is sharing access with Evergreen so we can help manage the rest of the process.
